Citronella, scientifically known as Cymbopogon Nardus is an herb of Poaceae species which grows in groups. It has fibrous roots and its green leaves can reach up to one meter in height. It is a tropical type of plant that can produce aromatic scent on its own.
Citronella is highly beneficial; especially in Asian countries where it is commonly used for cooking, fragrance, medication as well as hygiene purposes. Back in the old days, our parent would grow Lemongrass in their garden to prevent pest from attacking the beautiful flowers and crop. It was then realized by the founder that the plant excreted significant smell to chase insects away. Of course growing them in the house where ants and roaches make a living would be a hassle. The founder then decided to milk the plant’s extract which act as the base of every product in Serai Wangi AFY Haniff range until today.
Branding of Serai Wangi…
Due to the fact that our company, AFY Haniff is originated from Malaysia, the founder of the company decided to name each of our products in our mother language; Malay.
In order to emphasize the use of Citronella Grass as the main ingredient, we had named our product ‘Serai Wangi’, which is directly translated from Malay meaning ‘fragrant lemongrass’.
Discovery of Serai Wangi…
The making of this beneficial solution started from the observation on the benefits possessed by the plant. Our product is the combination of basic knowledge (traditional) and laboratory researches (modern). The mixture of both Citronella base and supplementary chemical element has resulted to a valuable discovery. The solution is then bottled and spread throughout peninsular Malaysia in a convenient form for consumer to benefit from its repellent properties.
